ABOUT
ME
My name is Mariana Pires, and I’m a professional actress, theatre maker, and facilitator. Originally from Fafe, a small town in northern Portugal, I now work as a freelance artist based in the UK.

My journey into the arts started in 2007 when I joined the Classical Music Course at José Atalaya Music Academy (Fafe). I had the opportunity to be part of many great musicals such as ‘Aladdin’, ‘Mamma Mia’, ‘Cats’ and ‘Beauty and the Beast’.
In 2013, I joined a community theatre project Fafe Cidade das Artes which developed intergenerational and inclusive workshops such as acting, clown, puppetry, puppet/marionettes making, costumes and mask masking. In collaboration with this project, I volunteered and performed in international street theatre festivals, and took part in several musical productions and physical theatre performances, often incorporating puppetry and marionettes.
In 2015, I started my BA in Theatre – Acting, in ESMAE, Porto. I had the opportunity to work with guest directors - Nuno Cardoso, Paulo Calatré and the street theatre company Radar 360. I spent a semester studying Musical Theatre at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels (KCB) as an Erasmus student. I performed in ‘Pippin’ - a Dutch version of the musical directed by Jeroen Maes.
After graduating, I started my professional traineeship with Tmesis Theatre in Liverpool. I had the chance to develop administrative and marketing skills and worked as a volunteer and assistant in the international festival of physical theatre, Physical Fest. I also played Frida Kahlo for ‘Wicked Women,’ which toured the North West of England. I went on working with Tmesis Theatre as a devisor/performer.
Over the past few years, I have focused my training on physical theatre. I had the chance to train with John Wright, Peta Lily, Jamie Wood, John Britton, Duda Paiva, Izumi Ashizawa, Deanna Fleysher, Lucy Hopkins, and Guillaume Pigé.
I’m currently on an international tour with Sealskin by Tmesis Theatre. I’ll be performing at The Lowry in Manchester on January 16th.​​

O meu nome é Mariana e sou atriz, cantora e criadora. Nasci em Fafe, e estou de momento a viver entre Liverpool e Porto. Sou freelancer e membro da companhia Tmesis Theatre.
Iniciei os meus estudos em música clássica na Academia de Música José Atalaya em 2007. Tive desde cedo a oportunidade de participar em grandes musicais, como por exemplo: “Aladino”, “Mamma Mia”, “Gelicais Gatos” e “A Bela e o Monstro”.
Em 2013, integrei as oficinas de teatro amador do projeto comunitário “Fafe Cidade das Artes”. Participei como atriz e voluntária em inúmeros musicais, festivais internacionais de teatro de rua e clown, e performances de teatro físico que muitas vezes incorporavam bonecos e marionetas. Durante as oficinas de interpretação, cenografia e figurinos contactei com pessoas de todas as idades, diferentes etnias, e com deficiências motoras e/ou intelectuais.
Em 2015, iniciei a minha Licenciatura em Teatro, variante de Interpretação na Esmae, Porto. Tive a oportunidade de trabalhar com diferentes encenadores, entre eles: Nuno Cardoso, Paulo Calatré, Inês Vicente e a companhia de teatro de rua Radar 360Ëš. Durante o quinto semestre, estudei Teatro Musical no Conservatório Real e Bruxelas Erasmus e participei na versão neerlandesa do musical “Pippin” encenado por Jeroen Maes.
Depois de terminar a minha licenciatura em 2018, iniciei um estágio profissional (Eramus+) com a companhia de teatro físico Tmesis Theatre em Liverpool, com quem ainda hoje colaboro. Durante o estágio, tive a oportunidade de desenvolver novas competências em administração e marketing. Trabalhei também como assistente oficial do festival internacional de teatro físico Physical Fest e integrei o elenco do espetáculo de rua "Wicked Women”, encenado por Elinor Randle (Tmesis Training Company). Recentemente, fiz parte da tour profissional da versão para espaços interiores desta performance.

Durante os últimos anos, tenho focado o meu treino em teatro físico. De entre os artistas com quem tive a oportunidade de treinar, destaco: John Wright, Peta Lily, Jamie Wood, John Britton, Duda Paiva, Izumi Ashizawa, Deanna Fleysher, Lucy Hopkins, and Guillaume Pigé.

Neste momento, estou em tour internacional com o espetáculo "Sealskin" Da Tmesis Theatre, com próxima apresetação no dia 16 de Janeiro de 2025 no The Lowry, em Manchester.​
